Are you military or just visiting from NC?

I would take it to court and appeal to the judge's common sense. Yes, the way the law is written they can ticket any vehicle on the roadways of the Commonwealth of VA, but that is absurd when you think about it. So, if you live in PA and are driving to Hatteras for vacation, and your car is legal, tagged and registered in PA the VA cops can ticket you for something that is illegal in VA. It is utterly stupid and demonstrates the lack of intelligence the state legislature has in VA. The court though has the ability to throw it out. Most judges I have seen don't hammer folks just to do it. If you weren't hurting anyone and your car is not registered in VA the judge would be a fool not to throw it out.

If you are military and stationed here, then there are federal laws that protect us from having to re-register everytime the military moves us to another state. It isn't explicitly listed in the language of the law, but the spirit and intent are that we don't have to spend absurd amounts of money and time reconfiguring our vehicles just bcz we moved from TX to VA, or VA to MA, etc. Again, I believe appealing to the court will usually work in your favor. I personally plan to fight it all the way if it comes to that. This is just one of the many examples of VA lawmakers run amuck.

Remember, tickets like this have nothing to do with safety - they are all about revenue. If you are just passing through the state they know you aren't likely to come back to fight it in court - most folks just pay the fine.

i was pulled the other day in my neighborhood after the cop followed me for like 10 minutes. It was for my cold air intake. But I work at Chanello's and we give cops free food, so all he said was oh, I didn't know it was you, have a good night, so just get a job at a pizza place.

Jebus, dragged this one from the depths of hell. Try reading/posting in something a little newer.
