I agree with S13wannabe about the choosing your fate. I also agree with most everyone else that there is some redeeming aspect about each job that we all do. Of course the other 95% usually sucks!

As an old guy....(lol).... I just retired as one of those "nukes"....20 years as a submariner with 16 of those years here in Norfolk. Some nukes definitely fit that stereotype.....luckily I was one of a few that could turn a wrench (old school with my Dad and his musclecars). Now I get to play with my Infiniti G35 Coupe and use my experience to build it up the way I want.....Supercharger next. It's amazing what Naval experience crosses over to customizing cars... SRB was nice, but retired pay and a good consulting job is better....glad I stuck it out.....whew.

late reply, but anyhow........."cough, cough"
I served 4 years on board a nuclear powered submarine where 50% of the 130-140 member crew were nukes, thank you very much dick-face. I think I know what I"m talking about.

I know plenty of nukes (didn't know Steve was one though), I even live with nuke-waste. There are plenty of exceptions to the rule as always, but the ones with sense are few and far between, noone can deny it. All have to be smart as HELL, but most people that are that damn smart just don't have anything left for social skills and common sense. Thank goodness for those exceptions however, so the nukes on here don't need to get defensive to me.

well, this is kind of a ridiculous discussion to begin with. Nukes aren't essentially "stupid". If they were, they wouldn't have the particular rate that they do. They're book worms. Their first 1 1/2 years or more on board a sub, they spend reading reactor and and related equipment tech manuals. So, when it comes to normal world situations, they always seems to try and apply nuclear theories to it to solve the problem, which doesn't always work, making them seem lacking when it comes to common sense. This is my opinion after a 4 year observation, when I had to qualify to get a sub warfare pin, about 50% of it dealt with equipment in the engineroom, so I spent a significant amount of time back there talking to them.
