Shelor drag strip
I heard some talk of the shelor mm strip being upgraded or something at some point to a 1/4 track. I went to the website and was able to find the drag schedule but only track info on the 4/10 oval. Anybody know?
I hear this all the time, but with the incline on the deceleration part of the track, I seriously doubt it will ever be a 1/4 mile track. When they were building it, the website said it would be all concrete 1/8th, with a 2 percent incline to help the cars slow down. The decel portion was to be about 1200 feet I believe. That would mean that to make it a 1/4, they would have to rip up the track from the 1/8th mile point. AND add on enough to make it 1/4. Plus even more room for slowing down. I don't know what you guys think, but I would say IF it was ever gonna be a 1/4, it would be built without the incline for future expansion. Who knows, some may disagree. It is somewhere in a thread on here.
I myself, would LOVE to see it be a 1/4 mile track, but don't expect to see it.

I'm no drag strip expert (although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) but I have heard of many tracks doing that. I believe it's more common in 1/4 tracks than 1/8 tracks, but it makes sense. A car takes more energy to go uphill than on flat ground, so it would aid in slowing down the drag cars that shut down their engine after crossing the finish line.
Oh, and just in case any of you haven't seen it, here's Shelor's schedule for the year...

I think the main reason they cheaped out on it was david only set aside 5mil for the whole NRVS renovation, including the strip. Unfortunately they spent about 2 mil of it just removing HUGE rock from the area to make the strip.
Here is the quote from there website. I originally posted this about a year ago.
DRAG STRIP INFORMATION: All burnout areas are 100% concrete. It will be a full 1/8 mile start to finish constructed of 100% concrete 50 feet wide. The decel lane is 1480 feet with a 2% grade increase. This will make the total dragstrip 2140 feet from the starting line with an addition 200 feet sand trap at the end of the decel lane. With the 2% grade increase of the decel lane this would be equivalent of an estimated track length of 3200 feet.
Sucks, but from that, I would guess it will never be a 1/4 track.

Ah its the decel portion that has the incline, I figured it was the actual strip that was inclined, I was thinking why the fuck would they do that. Having a decel strip with a 2* incline would cause you to lose around 3% of your velocity just from the incline, so its a decent decrease I suppose.
