Scenic photo ideas..
A photo conest has just started on another board I'm a member of and the idea behind the contest is to include different elements in the pic besides the car. This time it's water and I've been trying to think up places to take the car.
So far only real ideas I have are the Lake at the Peaks and Mabry Mill..
Anyone else have any other suggestions?? I really want a water fall or nice shot of a creek or river behind the car. But I dont know of any places that I can get the car in for a good shot. I know of the waterfall in Bath Co. (I think) it is that is right on the side of the road. But with it being so dry I dont know if I can get a good shot in.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance

I do not know where you can find a natural waterfall close enough to drive your car to around here.
Other options of course are smith mtn. lake, mountain lake, roanoke river, james river, ect... depends on how far you are willing to drive.
This does sound like a good fun contest though.
Maybe chad will know of something, as I think he may go geocaching. You'll explore all new territorries when geocaching that you did not know were around.

There are plenty of places in Fincastle. Of course, now that I started typing, I'm drawing a blank on the names. We ride up there all the time, and go by lots of creeks, streams, and ponds. I'll talk to the guy I ride with tonight and see what the routes are. One of them is close to you. We go right by your house and then turn off...
well I cant use SML, cause it's already been used and I dont wanna step on any toes. I like mountain lake, but it's the same with the rivers right now, it's gotta be down a bit from the lack of rain.
I just tossed the idea up cause I was sure you guys knew of some nice spots that I had no clue of.
Distance isnt really an issue either. My plans are to clean the car up tomorrow evening and jus spend the whole day friday crusing around taking pics. I figured I'd hit the lakes around sunrise and sunset to see if I can get a good effect there. Other then that my day is WIDE open. Couldnt pass up the chance to spend the day with my car and this contest has given me a great excuse to do so. For a beat up old red conquest she doesnt photograph half bad. I took this pic a few weeks ago, didnt even bother washing it before hand.. and I dont think it turned out half bad.

it's going to be a tough contest.... here's what I'm up against so far....

to tell you the truth, i'm not really super impressed by those pics. not that i'm a photographer or anything. (i don't even think i know how to spell photographer)
if you cannot find a scenic place to shoot a car, or anything for that matter, in this area, someone should be whipped. there are so many places it aint even funny. go out 42 if you want some nice woods shots (in the Jefferson National forest, since thats the ONLY thing that 42 leads to
) want water? three lakes within an hour of roanoke. philpott, smith mountain, claytor. all have nice spots to pull off, or if you wanna be real cool, go to a boat ramp and drive right to the level. works great if you are careful.
want mountains? fuck....if you cant find a mountain scene on the parkway, you are blind. mabry mill is so over photographed it aint even funny, i live near it, fucking tourists suck. peaks of otter is aight, but you wnat something different?
try a nice field shot with bales of hay in the background, plenty off of 221 and the parkway toward check. want a big ass bridge in the shot? go on Ellet Rd in blacksburg, just outside of town limits on the downhill side. you can always have the "lego castles" as UVGay people like to call them, with shots from VT campus.
this is only what i thought up in three minutes while eating some cheezits, i am sure with a little creativity you can think of something also. some damn nice underpasses on the parkway that are cool for angle shots and shit. if you aint creative, you dont need to be doing photography.
and shoot it on film. fuck digital.

Well its not like any of us do it for a living anyways.... hell I cant take a good pic to save my life (proof in the last post), but its something I enjoy doing. And it's all about fun anyways....
A couple of those pics I actually really like... the last one with the Black Quest on the Beach is probably my favorite so far...
A spot that I found.. but like someone said, there are TONS of spots. Just find the new river... and locate a road that runs along side it.

I have plenty of pics of my car all over the parkway and suck... hell my favorite is going up into WV for the Mountain shots. I really love the New River, but I cant for the life of me think of a good place to get the car down to for a shot. And that's the thing, this time it needs to have water as a major subject. Kinda why I thought about the waterfall in Bath. But I havent been out there in forever, so I dont remember if theres even a way for me to get the two in a shot. Was just asking for suggestions so I can have ideas for friday.
When it comes to film vs digital I usually do both. My problem is my camera really isnt that great, its a Minolta Maxxum 3xi (if that sounds right). Again this is jus something I enjoy, not really something I'd call a hobby. So as long as I get a pic that I like I dont care if its film or digi.
But thanks for your suggestions...
