I took BJJ when I was 1 Ranger Battalion. Fucking sweet as stuff. Its a type of grappling mainly. Using choke holds and arm/leg bars to take out the enemy.

I've gone there for years now taking Capoeira and their BJJ and Muay Thai instructors are awesome.

That's a little further then I'm willing to drive but thanks for the response...

Nice, I'll have to figure out what type of a drive it is from Roanoke. It looks like they have a great setup. Not only do they have BJJ classes but they have MMA class which is really what I want more then BJJ but I thought that it would be impossible to find.

Damn why can't we have a place like this in Roanoke...

Has anyone heard of Ray's Judo-Jijitsu-Wrestling in Salem?

I really want the Jijitsu/wrestling more then Muay Thai. Of coarse none of it will come until I get my pasty white ass into a little better shape. Which I am in the process of now...

the drive is prolly about 45 mins to an hour. It might be a little tough to find for an out of town person but that's why I use Mapquest. most of the time they are close enough for me to find what I'm looking for.

no BJJ is a grappling art. Most of what is taught on your feet is how to grapple someone to the ground, where you then make an effort start doing some extensive joint work cause a general lack of oxygen to the brain for your opponent (you usaly pound on the guys head and body to soften him up before doing these holds)

Or that’s my generalized uneducated explanation of what it is...

Watch the ultimate fighter on spike TV tonight and you will likely get some idea as to what it is. Most fights go to the ground at some point and once they’re the guy’s ether use BJJ or wrestling or a hybrid of both.

BJJ and wrestling are great ways to increase you core strength, ie back, abs, hips and generally any other muscle in the middle trunk of your body that can be hard to hit with weights.
