With a UTEC, the launch control uses the cruise control switch. The launch control works whenever the clutch is engaged, and since the cruise control switch is engaged by the clutch pedal, you disconnect the cruise control from it and then hook the launch control up to it.
It was sort of an inside joke. Only the WRX guys would get it I guess.....
