Best Restaurant in Roanoke and surrounding area?
Where are they located? Its sad that we have one of the best down home breakfast places in the area (Blue Ridge Restaurant) and I drive to Vinton when I have a craving for fried bologna or some damn good pancakes.
It's a hike, by all means, but it's worth trying at least once. Bet you'd go back!
I took my buddy Chris to Abbotts in Garden City a year or two ago before they had the fire and he ordered a thick fried bologna burger if I'm not mistaken. He seemed to think it was some sort of holy meal. I haven't had fried bologna since I was a kid when I'd go fishing in Kentucky with my grandfather. Frankly I'm not even sure if I remember what it tastes like, but I'm going to make it a point to fry some up soon.
One of the better prime ribs I've had is from the Farmhouse in Christiansburg(I haven't had many but this was just ridiculously good). And another vote for the Homeplace. Very good eating for the money and their fried chicken is way too good. Buffet without having to stand up? Eff yeah!

Regardless, you don't need to wear a belt there!
I skimmed through all mentioned types of food posted, and I believe all of you must have fallen at some point and hit your fuckin' heads because I see no mentioning of SUSHI!...lol, hot spots (if you like sushi) are deffinitely Kabuki, Cafe Asia, Ben Gui, Edo, Wasabi's, or Metro...there was a new one built in Daleville in the Kroger strip-mall area but I don't know the name of it. Oh, and by the way, speaking of food-chains...the construction going on at Valley View near the Sears Repair Center is supposedly gonna be a Chili's...and Outback Steakhouse just bought a plot in Daleville near the new Food Lion.

ooooh. Another shitty chain that some people are moronically convinced is better than a local place.
Last four times I ate at a Chilis (Nashville, Pearisburg, Greensboro and Charleston WVa) the food SUCKED. Service is one thing, but having dishes that are consistently terrible over a 400 mile range is all I need to see to stay clear of there.
Outback has several items on the menu that are good, but I still like to stay away from the masses when I eat. If it costs me a few bucks more and I dont have to deal with someone coming out and singing happy birthday to a table behind me, I am all for it.
As for sushi....well, I have had it from a few places, and never got into it. Just my preferences I reckon. Only raw fish I like to eat is pussy.

Chili's is my wife's favorite chain restaurant, and I can't figure it out for the life of me. I'm with Joey, their food is subpar and it's actually overpriced in comparison to comparable chains.
