MIG= Metal Inert Gas. key words inert gas meaning that it requires an inert gas, a gas that is not effected by temperature or any other means, could be argon/ nitrogen/ CO2/ or a combination. it acts as a sheilding gas to prevent oxygen and hydrogen molecules from dipositing in the weld thus causing it to be weaker. flux core and smaw, also known as stick, use a flux to burn all of the oxygen and hydrogen out of the welding area. so you are actually looking for a flux core/ wire feed welder. just to give some insight.
