Best autocross tires for a beginner on stock miata rims?
looking for opinions for autocross tires for my miata, and I'm thinking about going one of these tires (Nitto NT-01 or Kumho VictoRacer)... any opinions of which is better? should I go with a cheaper high performance summer tire?
I'm running the stock '90 rims and options are limited.
205/55-14, 195/55-14, or 185/60-14...

Re: Nitto NT-01 or Kumho VictoRacer?
i bought a second set of rims for the car. I have two sets of the same rim. only cost me 10 bucks for the second set! so I'm gonna have normal road tires, and autocross tires!

Well I guess you didn't get what I said. At this stage in the game spending $ 500 on tires is a waist. For many reasons. The first thing you have to realize is that daily driving is nothing like auto-crossing. If you have only done it a few times you have no idea what the car is capable of as it sits today. What I mean is no mater what the car or tire I can always get into a students car and beat them very handily when they have minimal experience. YOu have to learn the limits of the car. Steady cornering and breaking are key. Push the car too hard and you $ tuns to dust, lock up the brakes and your money turns to dust (dust meaning you putting excessive wear in the tires or even wores you can flat spot them).
Do what you will but you will go faster if you take the time and learn to drive the car as it sits than throwing and "go fast" part on it.
Best of luck

Re: Nitto NT-01 or Kumho VictoRacer?
I understood what you said, but the tires I have on it now are pretty weak. They're fine for road driving, but I wouldn't say they are great for anything other than straight line, light to light road driving. Why would I wanna take those tires out there and flat spot them or cause excessive wear when they are fine for what I got them for?
I could go with a higher performance summer tire or something of the sort for a little under 400 dollars or pay 25 dollars a tire more and get something like the Nitto or Kumho. Wouldn't it make more sense to keep my DD tires in good condition and buy something with a little more grip for the track, or use my DD tires, ruin them and have to buy another set of DD tires, then buy a second set so I don't have to ruin the first again?
It's not about going fast or setting a certain time, it's about saving money in the long run.
I'll reword my question and original post for all autocross tires, just not those certain two.
