Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Autocross is confusing.
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
LOL, how/why?
Edit: you mean, like, finding your way around the course? |
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Yes. I feel like I'd go out there and hit every cone and then some poor sap would have to pick them up.
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Hahaha fair enough. Keep in mind though, walking the course beforehand definitely helps. ;)
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
I'll be taking the new autox car out. Should be fun since not having a car to race in almost 2 years.

I feel the same way... |
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Well I feel like coming to an autocross and trying not to hit cones is a good way to NOT feel that way. ;)
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
i'm there...NOVICE status for me
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!

That's also when we decide if this will be a 2-heat event or a 3-heat event. |

Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Entry list so far is online... http://www.get-fast.net/nasacross/011809reg.htm
Plenty of spots left... https://secure.drivenasa.com/event/806 We do need another 15+ entries to run three heats as planned. So please c'mon out everyone, the more the merrier! Thanks, Jon |
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Do I have to pick up my own cones?
And you work the course when you're not running, correct? How does that work? Can I use my no-snell sticker helmet? |
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Others pick up your cones, and you pick up theirs.
Everyone who drives in a heat has to work another heat. Assignments are: cone fixing, cone calling/flagging, start, pre-grid, time writer, time caller, and time giver. Usually we have 5 work stations with 2-3 people on each (i.e. 1-2 chasing cones and one calling in penalties/handling red flag duties.) So it takes about 20 people to handle one heat worth of work assignments. If it is a 2-heat event... heat 1 drivers work heat 2, heat 2 drivers work heat 1. If it is a 3-heat event... heat 1 drivers work heat 2, heat 2 driver work heat 3, heat 3 drivers work heat 1. Everyone gets their work assignment either at registration or immediately after the drivers meeting. Helmets need to be Snell M95/SA95 or newer/better, so yours without the sticker still isn't legal. We have a bunch of loaner helmets available, first come first serve in each heat once the cars are in grid. Just leave your drivers license at the timing table for collateral. |

Blast.

Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
quick question...my inner c/v boot is ripped...do i need to get that fixed before tech inspection?
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Although we may not catch that during the tech inspection, I'd strongly recommend getting it fixed before the autocross. Last thing you want is to break the CV joint itself (because it dried out due to ripped boot/lack of grease), which could leave you stranded. It could also be dangerous if it happened on course during a run.

Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Do yourself a favor and just put a Napa axle in it.
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
I think i might register and bring my sti. I have never done an auto-x before, it should be interesting.
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!

Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
i wanna go, but my inner cv boots are torn and by the time i pay for books and axles i'll be on zero...i could chance it and hope they don't see it, but if they do then i'd have driven 2 hrs for nothing :(
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
does anyone have the layout of the course /?
|
Re: Jan 18 autocross at VMP!
Lol, thats kinda the point of an Autocross is to figure it out on the fly when you get there.

Personally I think it's a smart choice to not run if you have a known problem with your car. Spend your time and money getting it ready for VIR in Feb! Jon |

He probably has a course design in mind, but it won't become reality until about 10:30 Sunday morning. Trust me though, we're in good hands, he's an awesome course designer. His last course design for us at VMP looked like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHFpvXwl68U ...which means we will probably run the opposite direction (counterclockwise) this time around, but there may be some similar elements to the course itself. We will have at least half an hour for course walking, but hopefully more. My advice is to walk it at least twice, and throw away your first run making sure you know which way it goes. Mufasa is right though, part of the skill is being able to see it and figure it out and get it right quickly. Although we offer more runs than many groups, which makes that easier in some ways. |

LOL, what's the hurry? Plenty more HPDE's this year...
Hyperdrive + Circuitcross is a great intro, and will certainly be a blast. Just my opinion of course. ;) |
