Gymkhana Test Trial at VMP 12/7/08
Presumably you can enter the gymkhana that day if there are any spots left, and if conspire says it's ok.
Totally different course. We will remove ~200 cones, then conspire will put maybe 50 of 'em back out.

It will be more like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJrEJb0HaeY
And less like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs-jAImScms

And the second video, as dope as it is, I wouldn't really call it Gymkhana. Although Ken Block shows some VERY technical moves with his Subaru, and the video does show a few very common aspects of Gymkhana, the speeds, and the drifting done in the video are incredibly overexaggerated, and once again I highly doubt anyone that will be attending your event will be doing anything near what was shown in the second video either.
Perhaps you should check this video out, and see some amatuers, at a Gymkhana event in a small parking lot, where (from what I understand) is where these events really started.

There is a lot of sliding going on, but nothing I would really consider to be "drifting".
Seeing how GET FAST works for NASA and knows what will and wont be tolerated at VMP I think his videos are fine. His point was " big smokey drifts that shred tires and spray rubber everywhere are NOT ok at this event. " and was well ilistrated.
Comenting anything furter is moot as what Jon "GET FAST" says will most likely be law at this event.
Have fun.

And, thanks vbspec. I am the safety steward for this event, as well as the person who rented the venue and secured the insurance/sanctioning. So yes, I will be "the law" on 12/7 whether I like it or not.

Technically you are correct:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymkhana
If you are from India.
America has this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymkhana_(Equestrian)
When I see "gymkhana" I think:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs-jAImScms
Or
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...60374192972591
And if you are not allowed, for any reason, to do any of the maneuvers depicted above then you might as well refer to your event as another Auto-X.

First off, wikipedia is not a good place to look for actual definitions.
Secondly, your first video (of Ken Block) is definitely not a gymkhana.
However, this event will look similar to the second video in terms of layout, course size, and speeds. Just without those curbs.
