02.22.2009 [Circuitschool/Circuitcross #1] VIR - Patriot Course
This was a fun event. A few of the cars ended up going off track, but good thing nothing serious.
Hey that guy with the Black WRX STI ( Show Car) almost took out the box, but he technically didn't go off cores, b/c he stayed in on the track but does that mean he gets warned about going of track ??

Does anyone have any Video of the TT 350z going off track or from what I heard hitting the rail ??
man how does or did that happen ?
Well over all good track session.

well the pace lap was a result of my inexperience. i wasn't doing anything stupid - i just cut in too close on that corner, r-comps started spinning because of the wet track, and if I had corrected the car like I should have, it would have been fine, instead I panicked, and just tapped the rail. it didn't even do anything to the rail.
the off track during the event - speed was too high, too much brake, rear end came out from behind me, not correct corrective action, in the grass
both were because of my inexperience. i did the hyperdrive the day before, and with the instructor in the car i had no problems and had a blast - i guess i'm not ready to go out alone in that thing with the circuitcross only being my 4th event, and 3rd in that car (and for that matter, the only non-autocrss, sub-40mph event)
I know I have a long way to go, no problem admitting that. I may not bring the Z out again though - when the instructor Mike drove the car in the second heat, he said it could be a difficult car to learn on. So, I'll start smaller. Something without 475whp/550tq.
Then maybe everyone won't think I'm such an idiot... just kind of an idiot

Hey man, didn't mean to bash on ya and you were not the only car to lose it in the pace laps. The white Integra also looped it right in front of me. I'm sure that car is a handful, that much power with R-comps in the rain is a bad idea. I only have about 350hp and It's hard to keep the r-comps from breaking loose under axeleration even in the dry. They are made for lateral grip more than straight ahead axceleration. At Speed (HPDE) it's a little easier than the patriot type event where you are on the throttle a lot trying to get the mass of the car moving. Don't get discouraged, and keep thinking about the basics and try not and overdrive the car. It's easy to be fast with 450 hp, but harder to be in control. You need both to cross the finish line in one piece... Last year in the rain, a Subie hit the wall at the pit entrance, totaled the car and put a big dent in his checkbook...

Next time I might take my tiburon out instead of the STi. No sence in having 400awhp if I can't control it especially when 90whp miatas are kicking our ass....lol
Mike,
While I think learning the ropes on a different car may be a good idea, I also think your car was a little much for the patriot course. What made that car a blast on the full course can make it a handful on a smaller "roller coaster" of a track. I was having some traction issues in my essentially stock Z.
If you're interested in something harmless, maybe we can work out something involving my SE-R for a few events.
