Default why a b16 instead of a b18?

Why would one choose a jdm b16a2 swap vs a b18c (not c5) if the price difference between the two is only a few hundred bucks...? (taking into consideration future plans such as NA or FI, also assuming the tranny is LSD equipped)

B18c is the jdm itr and is twice as expensive as a B16. Are you thinking of a GSR?(B18c1)

Entry level B-Series swap.

Compareable to the LS swap.

Well, each motor has its pro's and cons.

B16s have a short rod/stroke ratio
GSR's have a longer stroke ratio

Everything comes into effect, when you have goals for the car.

However, I'd choose the GSR esp since the B16 has to be in vtec to move anywhere quickly. Ha.

sorry i had meant the b18c1, figured b18c would clarify gsr. I was comparing a jdm b16a2 vs a usdm b18c1 the gsr motor...

trying to gauge options because I have test driven a few motor setups and taking into account the standard LS, an lsvtec, two b16a2's, and a b18c5....i just had more fun in the b16a2

The B16a2 is the usdm motor out of the 99-00 si's. There are two generations of the B16a out of the early 90's jdm sir's. You should be able to get a decent deal on a sir2 gen2 b16a, and you can get a factory lsd.

This is what I have, and I'm glad I went with it over the gsr I was considering. I drive it everyday and get 34mpg. Feels pretty much like a single cam just driving normally until you get above 5k and can rev all the way to 8200.

So the B16 gets my vote.

Not many people build NA B16's simply because of the displacement.

Myself, I plan on staying NA and doing B20vtec.

i wanted to do a b20 with a swapped head and boost...and i still plan to...but doing so...i couldnt just drop in one like that....id have to build it....and i am almost impatient now and can do that later....i just want to stick something in the hatch now because im tired of being slow....and the b16 has intrigued me more than the b18
