we changed a head gasket on a 93 dx civic. anyways everything is ok but sometimes when you cut the car off and restart it soon after, the idling goes wacky. it will jump from 1k-2k back and forth formaybe 10 seconds at the most. granted the car was sitting a while before we even swapped the gasket on it. but now that we drive it more, it does it but has stopped doing it as frequently. but it only did it when we cut the car back on after it had been running. well this morning before my fiance turned the car off, it did it again randomly. what cuold be causing this?

 

Check your timing. If your timing is off, it will cause that, or if your idle is set too low will also cause that.

also check for vaccum leaks
