Lost motion sensors? LOL.. Someone was seriously trying to bullshit you, they don't exist. The ECU uses the oil pressure switch and vehicle speed to determine whether to engage VTEC or not.

There are multiple VTEC CEL codes, which one is it? You've obviously read the code, and it will give you all the info you need.

Lost motion assemblies, sure. Lost motion sensors don't exist though. A sensor and an assembly aren't the same thing obviously.

You still haven't said which trouble code you're getting. I suspect you have a problem with your VTEC wiring though. I'm guessing this is an engine swap and someone completely fucked the wiring harness (which is pretty common for backyard engine swaps...)...? Let me guess, the wires are twisted together and covered with electrical tape?

Fix the VTEC wiring so VTEC works, then worry about the other stuff. Fix things one at a time.

If you can make VTEC engage with a toggle switch, that eliminates pretty much everything inside the engine. That's why I'm saying you should fix the wiring between the ECU and the VTEC switch and oil pressure solenoid.
