Re: suspension
What are your plans for the car?
Just to cruise around, lower than stock, no racing? If so, i would say get some KYB GR2 Struts and Tein S Tech springs. That is a super comfortable combo, and sit about 1.5" lower than stock.

Re: suspension
You probably did not have the right springs on the car. GR2s are perfect for slighting lower than stock, not slammed. Real low springs on most struts are going to cause them to wear out much faster.

Koni Yellows an adjustable and are without a doubt my favorite low priced strut. They hold up very well to abuse and do their job. Riding low are these will tear them up faster than usual as well.
I have them on one of my cars with a high spring rate set of sleeve coil overs. Good combo for what I use them for.
