Default stupid short shifter question

ok, i have a short shifter for my car, and tore apart the console to install it. Looks like the stock is welded in there. anyone know if that is true, or if i just missed the obvious??? also how hard is it to install headers, cause i need to do that too. Thanks.

never worked on a new civic, but on the hondas ive messed with,(civics, integras) you cant install the shifter from the top, you need to go under the car and disconnect shift linkage and stabilizer bar and pull out of the boot from the bottom, installing a header is simple it just takes time, but then again ive never messed with a new civic, just 00 and below cars..........
