Studder Box, 2 Step?
ight youve seen the big honda guys running at the track, im curious, you know how they rev thier car up and it sounds like they are bouncing it off the limiter but i highly doubt thats happeneing, what are they using and how does it work?
a two step is any secondary rev-limiter (should kill spark, not fuel) that you can set to a desired (launch) rpm and activate it with either just a pushbutton, or an arm switch and clutch activated.
they make for very consistent launches with manual cars, but you can use them with autos in combination with a transbrake.
the big bonus is on turbocharged cars.. the alternating firing or should i say misfiring of the cylinders puts gobs of heat and strong exhaust pulses into the turbo and it will normally create roughly half of the max boost set point you have.. right off the line. no more lag off the line.
i would typically see 3psi using mine , any more than what made that rpm-wise would spin the hoosiers into second gear.
here's a vid of mine where you can hear it just before take off.

i will soon be using a 3-step, which a lot of those guys are probably also using.. if any of the turbo guys go down the track without blowing off they are probably using one.. a 3 step is just like a 2 step only it has a moving neutral limiter in addition to the stopped neutral (stutterbox) and the default moving rev limiter. on my car my movign rev limiter is 8000 RPM, stutterbox is 5500, and between shifts i am limited to 6000, this way i can "no lift to shift" so that my throttle stays open, shifts are faster, and i don't lose as much spool between gears
