SR Rattle on start up & when shutting off
I have a red top sr20det and its making this wierd noise from where it sounds like is the top right corner of the head but im not sure. I thought it was the turbo because it had some shaft play so i replaced the turbo and that didnt help at all. It's still making the rattling noise. It sounds like theres a loose bolt or something moving around but I cant find it. Its not the heat shield or anything dealing with the turbo. Does anyone have any idea on what it could be or can come help me out ?
I found this video with what it sounds like, but no solution to help me out.http://www.youtube.com/v/n300hFFKliM?fs=1&hl=en_US http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n300hFFKliM

I don't even know what an sr20det is, but on the engines I am familiar with, that would describe a timing chain that, for one reason or another, is getting ready to let go, in which case you should park it until you can fix it, or one of those times instead of making a rattle it will make a clang/crunch/boom and stop moving.

The only time you hear it is on start up at light revving and when shutting motor off

Ah...you wrote "top right," but I read "front right." Yeah, the noise I'm talking about would be on the same end as the chain. No clue.

Yeah. lol. Thanks for the input though man. I might just have to pull off the valve cover and see what's there. Hope its nothing major.

Definitely pull the valve cover. Also, double check all the nuts holding the turbo and exhaust mani on. It could also be a little valve rattle. Not sure if your head has been rebuilt, but it is getting colder out, and older valve guides tend to have issues with ambient temp changes. It could also be that the hydraulic lifters need to be rebled. But they tend to make more of a ticking noise than a rattle when they get air in them.

It does it continously though. like doesnt go away but its still there. but not a over and over noise. Ill just have to pull the valve cover off and take a look when i get a chance. is it okay to still drive? Ive been driving it and really hasnt changed noise any.

Its not the timing chain or anything because i checked the chain the other day and it was fine and plus its coming from the back right of the motor not the front where my timing chain is. Ahhh, its driving me crazy. its not any visible bolts or anything dealing with the exhaust manifold or turbo because i checked/replaced my turbo.
