Default Re: rod bearings

if you have the rods look on the side of the rod and there should be a number on the rods, (1-4) half on the top and the other half on the bottom to make the full number. this is one portion of finding the right size bearing

now for the crank to find the letters for the other portion of the code. on the crank there are four letters, each is stamped right by the rod journal

if you didnt number the rods when they came out you shoudl be alright just designate all the rods with one journal and take the letter and the number on the rod to make a code.

lets say all your rod journals on the crank have th letter c
and all yoru rods are 3's

this gives you c3 for all yoru rods bearings

here is the chart to tell you what color honda bearings you would use
1 2 3 4
a red pink yellow green
b pink yellow green brown
c yellow green brown black
d green brown black blue

i hope that wasnt to complicated if i could post some pics it might help
the same goes with the main bearings also

let me know if i can help anymore

Default Re: rod bearings

i just took the bottom end apart. all the rods said 3 but then the crank said b3 all the way where the cylinder no.1 is. What confuses me is that on the crank where the rods go no.2,3,4 all say c . the journal on the block says DDDDD. So i dont know what i should purchase the D3 combination? and what should i do for the middle bearings?

thanks for the help

well the stamp on the bottom of the block there are five stamps for the five MAIN bearings in the exact order that you read them from left to right

from what your saying you first rod bearing should be b3 and the the other three should be c3

just from what you said

Thats hard to say since so many companys make them. I have blue-point ones that work fine but you could always buy better.

If you dont know much about them then read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micrometer

I think you are missing something...

First you said that all the rods said 3.

Then you said the crank said B3 all the way where the cylinder no.1

Also you said that rods 2,3,4 all say C

And finally you said the block said DDDDD

Well for starts, you mentioned the number code for the #1 main which you said was a 3, but never mentioned 2 thur 5. So the #1 bearing will be a D3 which = Black. You need to find the rest of these number codes to figure out the correct main bearing for 2 thur 5. On the crank you need to find the 5 numbers that may or may not be next to a letter. The letters are for figuring rod bearings and numbers are for figuring main bearings.
As far as the rod bearing with what you have mentioned...

#1 rod will need a Green
#2 rod will need a Brown
#3 rod will need a Brown
#4 rod will need a Brown

Be careful if this is a B motor, because there are three different rod bearings with two different sizes.

B16A/B17A1 Rod Bearing
13211-P30-003 Blue
13212-P30-003 Black
13213-P30-003 Brown
13214-P30-003 Green
13215-P30-003 Yellow
13216-P30-003 Pink
13217-P30-003 Red

B18A/B18A/B20 Rod Bearing
13211-PR4-A02 Blue
13212-PR4-A02 Black
13213-PR4-A02 Brown
13214-PR4-A02 Green
13215-PR4-A02 Yellow
13216-PR4-A02 Pink
13217-PR4-A02 Red

B18C1/B18C5 Rod Bearings
13211-P72-003 Blue
13212-P72-003 Black
13213-P72-003 Brown
13214-P72-003 Green
13215-P72-003 Yellow
13216-P72-003 Pink
13217-P72-003 Red

Either way, in the end I always use a micrometer to be safe.
