Replacing Blown Motor Mount (b20 in '99DX)
So I've owned my 99 DX for a whole two weeks now, the motor mount blew out, put a few big dings into the hood, and now my car is sitting in the driveway and I'm scared to move it more than 10 feet. It's probably mostly my fault since this was the first six-puck I had ever driven and a "stutter" here and there was rather violent in that car.
So now here I am, sitting on a blown motor mount. I did a quick search here and didn't find much on replacing a motor mount beyond AVID mounts suck. My question is, I can get a new stock replacement mount from the guy who sold me the car (hopefully he'll give me a discount), but I don't really want to have the car towed, and I don't want to drive it to a shop. I'm not entirely mechanically retarded... I do my own oil changes, tune ups, replaced exhaust, some suspension work, etc. Without an engine lift, is this something I can do myself (or with a buddy)?
Since this is just the drivers-side mount (the tranny and rear mount look fine), is it possible to just simply put a jack or other form of support under the motor to keep it up, unbolt/remove the top mount plate, remove the blown mount, replace the mount, replace mount plate, and voila, done? If so, where's a safe place to jack it up from? I'm assuming the crank is a no-no, and that the oil-pan will crumble like cheap cardboard. Would jacking it up from the transmission be good enough?
Any help/suggestions and minimal mocking would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

when we replaced the mount on my brothers eagle(lawl) we just put a car jack with some wood on it and jacked the shit out of it, dunno if itd work for you and its definately not a 100% safe, some people dont go under cars unless it is.
The oil pan is strong enough to hold it, i usually place a peice of a 2 x 4 under the oil pan to help distribute the weight. The rest is just like you said. If you are not using the a/c bracket mount this is going to keep on happening also.
I had the same problem, I bought a driver side motor mount from passwordjdm.com never had any problem with engine movement again. I just put a jack under the oil pan and bolted the bad boy together.
I do plan on putting ac back in the car asap, but do you mind educating me? What does the ac bracket do to strengthen the motor mount? Isn't that bracket on the driver's side but completely disconnected from the motor?
Also... the car was turbo'd by the previous owner, so I'm assuming FI + six puck meant the motor mount was on it's last leg.

The design in this one is so much better then stock. The stock mount when mine blew pretty much just lifted out, making a nice HUGE dent in my hood. With this one you will have no problem!

I have no personal experience, but the only relevant post in this forum I found was lamenting over problems with avid mounts and most of the replies were similar opinions/experiences.
I apologize beforehand for my spelling/grammar, as all of this is being sent from an htc touch

Thanks for the clarification. In your opinion, would replacing the stock mount plus ac be a safe bet assuming the other mounts look good?
