Propane injection in the USA
Okay, I'm fairly new to the race scene and I'm still learning, but does anybody know a good amount about propane injection? I heard about some super benefits on how you cna literally run racing fuel with premium gas and how it is better for your car because it burns cleaner. I have no idea where I heard this if it's wrong, but what's everyone's opinion on propane injection... seems popular in Japan, but highly uncommon in the US. I've only seen it in 3000GT VR-4s really. Worth it? or not worth it??
It lowers comubustion temperatures and SEVERLY lowers chances of detonation. A friend of mine was running ~290hp at the wheels and at the limit of his fuel system (which was running over 100% duty cycle), so he rigged up a home-made propane injection system, upped the boost, advanced the timing, and put 392 to the wheels next time on the dyno... still rockin' the stock fuel system (designed for a ~180hp engine). I think he said he ended up spending less than $100 on the whole setup, but I'm not sure what he previously had and what he had to buy.
If you know what you're doing with a propane system, more power to you. Literally.
Ask around on an Rx-7 board - I'm sure they'll have more info on it. It's the crazy bastards with the cheap-ass turbo cars from the '80's that are doin' shit like this.

Thanks. That info told me quite a bit more than I knew. I think that it may be worth it, but I am gonna ask some rotary enthusiasts/experts to get a good opinion if it's safe for my type of car.
If you plan on using propane injection, I would make sure that you mount the tank securely, and I would remove any carpeting, etc that is in your trunk area. Remember to shut the valve off if you are not driving your car every day.

Yeah, I'm with ya there. I want to get the warning system for it too to let me know about in back pressure or anything dangerous with the compression of it all. I know how dangerous this stuff can be. Thanks for the input though.
