Default Piston Rod Combo ?'s

Ok i have a ls/vtec setup i just got and i want to build it up a liitle for N/A b18b bottem end and b18c1 head
i am wondering can i use the stock b18b crank and throw type r pistons and type r rods on it or throw type r pistons on the stock ls rod will it work? i am not really into boost so im tryin to bump the commpression up ...any bore needed or will the piston slide right in?
what the better combo input is appreciated

You can not throw the type r rods on the ls crank reason being the stroke is different on each crank( 87.2 mm for the type r , 89 mm for the ls.) You can put the type r pistons on the stock ls rods, but you have to shave down the wrist pin end of the ls rod to fit inside of the type r piston. Nothing really major However you can put a type r crank in the ls and then you can use the type r rods and pistons with no modification. It will be cheaper to just get the ls rods machined. For the bore nothing has to be changed both the ls bottom and type r bottom come stock with 81mm bore. Hope this helps you out.

GSR and ITR both use an 87.2mm Stroke Crank and the rods are the same length (5.430")

LS and B20 both use an 89mm Stroke Crank and the rods are the same length (5.394")

You need to match the rods with the crank. All B series pistons have the same compression height (1.180") and therefore can be put on any of the rods. Some rods may be thinner than other rods (ie jdm ITR and CTR) and if you want to use their pistons on any other rods, you have to machine them down. but thats another story.

do you think it would be worth it to put type r pistons on the ls rod in the ls block ? running n/a ls/vtec

yes. it will raise your compression and your setup will benefit. B16 pistons are almost the same as the ITR btw, you might be able to find these cheaper.

is there any modification needed for b16(pr3) pistons on the ls rods?
