Default Odd noise

It appears to be comming from that main pully, anyone help on identifying just what's wrong here, and any recomendations for getting it fixed.
Odd noise

The car still drives fine, and pulls without a studder. It just keeps making noise.

is this on a Miata?
if your lucky it's just the rubber harmonic balancer thats dry rotted away some
I don't believe the 96 1.8's had woodruff keys (and subsequent issues) like the 1.6's.

anyway I think replacing the whole pully assembly would be the prudent thing to do
and check any other pulley's or tensioners associated with it
make sure everything is rolling nice

possibly, mine was just cracked to hell and brittle - basically not doing any dampening
the sound it's making now sounds like what mine was doing, but since mine is a 1.6 I had the additional fun of the keyway getting worn - amazing what some locktite will fix
your main pully is really two peices, I'd replace both
Give Ray at Malloy Mazda a call, he was pretty on getting me what i needed, you can also try your local dealers they may have it in stock.

you should, my moms maxima did the same thing. You could tell it was bad but once it was out I was surprised it didn't sheer off. Get that taken care of asap.

the crank pully bolt could be warped or it could be the harmonic balancer
