Do you know if the motor is OBD-1 or 2? What kind of car is it and what year?

Yeah, same thing for my Accord. There is a 2 pin, blue plug behind the passenger side kick panel. I retrieve the CEL's that same way as you. But I'm not real sure if it works the same way for OBD-II.

Then there should be a plug in the same area as the ECU. Put a jumper wire in it, turn the key to the "on" position and retrieve the code. Check your service manual to find out what the CEL number means

jose, it's chris. how long and how many flashes there are determines what code it is, and that'll tell you what the problem is right there. We'll get it done.

how are you on oil??
over on the passenger side of the car next to the ECU there is a little plug that you hookup with a piece of wire to get the codes to flash

long flash=10
short flash=1
