NEON PERFORMANCE
Ok I'm looking for more performance out of my dodge neon highline. I already have cold intake and Tenzo type R muffler I'm waiting untill September when I get out of the Mariens to put a SuperCharger in it im looking to just get around 50 hp for the time being what do you think I should do?

You cant go wrong with boost, for starters i would check out some of the forums for neons, this site is overun by ignorance to anything different.

hold up nvm ive got a 2.0L not an SRT my Brother put that shit on there my bad but its not turbo and im gonna wait for turbo right now ima just trying to get a quick gain in horses for dirt cheap

This thread will crash and burn faster then the life span of a twinkie at Rosie's house BUT honestly there is no such thing as 50 dirt cheap horse power, especially in a neon, with the exception of N2O, for 300~ dollars or so you can get a zex kit or something similiar with a 55 jet, but honestly Neons (with the exception of the srt 2.4) aren't known for their reliability stock, let alone a 50hp increase. Honestly i bet the car is a great commuter, cheap on isnurance, and good on gas, leave it alone. If you want to mod something id get a seperate car with a more solid platform that will be cheaper and more reliable to mod. Because if you start modding your car, it will become a money pit.

what model do you have? sohc or dohc?
Things i would suggest would be afx computer, long tube header, solid motor mounts, cams, upgraded springs im not going to link to the neon vendors i dont know if im supposed to here but you can find them all at neons.org basically do a lot of research at neons.org, the biggest reliability problem for pre 99 vehicles were the headgaskets that were supplied to not to manafacturer specifications. |

headers, exhaust with high flow cat, pulleys, intake, lightweight clutch, grounding kit, lsd
get those and get like 25 hp.. btw it aint cheap. the cheapest thing you can do to your car is make an intake, but it seems you already have that |

dohc or sohc?
One simple thing you can do if youre dohc is find a newer 2.4 (01+) and pull the lash adjusters out of the head. Then go find a newer 2.7l intrepid,concorde etc and pull the rockers. probably no HP but it helps with oiling the cams and aeration. if your SOHC find a new R/T neon, Snag the cam, intake manifold and exhaust manifold. Or...better yet, get the head. |

neons are easy to modify if you know what you are doing. performance wise there are lots of things to buy and change if thats what you want. i had a 95 sohc that ran 14.5@93 with a mopar pcm, intake, udp and some weight reduction. dollar for dollar they can outperform hondas if you know where to put the money at. these cars got a bad rep for headgasket supplier issues but can be good cars if so desired. most people consider them throw away vehicles. i had plenty of people laugh at my car that left them in the dust at the track who were driving hondas. do what you want, just remember modifying cars is like throwing money away, and if you do complete something, whatever it may be, some asshole will probably steal it from you in the end. then you get left with nothing.
