I have delt with most of the shops in the area. I'm not happy with any of them. I use Ballos Machine in Richmond Va. Call and ask for Stewart, tell him Dave Brauning told you to call. This guy will do anything you ask for. He is VERY GOOD!

Re: need a good machine shop in northern VA
well engine wise, the usual sleeving, honing, deshrouding valves, guide machine, decking, block blueprinting...oil galley and feed mods. I had a hook up with a local shop where I got to use equipment myself and already have the cnc code for all my EJ series block prep...
as for Joe, no, not any time soon but just doing some general research...I might end up in stafford doing some MRAP automotive engineering and still wanna keep my subie built motor business at least on the side.
as for general machine work, I'd need mandrel benders from 3/4" to 4", preferably 6-axis lathe, 5 axis mill...full custom order fabrication capability, prefferrably.

Re: need a good machine shop in northern VA
do they have a mandrel bender? and do they take orders to spec?
I've found a shop in MD that does but I don't wanna make that hike unless I have no other option.
thanks for all the input so far.
