well i have quite a bit of extra cash right now, and i really want something a little more peppy than my em1, but would still like to be able to dd whatever it is that i build.

so i decided about a month ago i wanted to build and boost a d series. this will be my first completely independent build (helped my dad with his 2jz slightly, very slightly)
probably with a y8 or y7 (not sure if i want to hassle with vtec) head on a d16 block.
im sure stock sleeves wont hold the power i want ( ill be happy anywhere between 250-350 )
im not even sure what it would cost to sleeve a d series block,
but im set on eagle rods and crankshaft.
and probably vitara pistons

and im not sure what cam to run.

i want a moderate compression, because i dont want very high boost. and i really dont want an extremely quick spool spool. so when i dd it i can stay in vacuum somewhat and get d series gas mileage lol.
im not really sure what combo i should use yet.

so could anyone maybe suggest what turbo would work good with anywhere from about 9.0-11.0 to 1 compression and still give me the numbers i want?

and an estimate on price for sleeving my engine, and who around here could do it, and machine my head right.

i will continue to use this thread through my build, which i hope to get started during christmas break, have cash in hand so ill be buying everything as soon as i do a little more research.
and like i said this is my first build, and i have noone to really teach me hands on, so if i say anything stupid, chill and dont flame. everyone starts somewhere. im just trying to learn. if i knew exactly what i was doing i would be building my b16, because ive thought about it, but im not risking blowing that engine up

 

d series sleeves hold power. don't buy a block guard. vitara pistons and eagle rods are nice, crankshaft you can use a stock one, but take it to the machine shop polished balanced all that good stuff. 59300 comp cam is a good turbo cam, while your there get the springs to go with it. if you want a quick spool get a smaller turbo, stay away from the 57 trim it wont start spooling til about 4-5k...DONT SLEEVE your motor..i would personally go with a d16z6...get matt to tune it.. that is definately enough to hold 350hp...good luck

thats why im not sure what i should aim for with compression and what size turbo to use in combination to achiever that. im just being really picky because i will most likely dd this as well, and would like to stay in vacuum when i want.

and i thought about using the stack crank, but im not sure thats such a good idea.
i have a large budget, and im not going to skimp anywhere. so all these things just make sense to me, especially when im trying to build a reliable car.

 

stock crank is fine if you have it micro polished and taken care of. Stock rods have seen 400 hp with vitara pistons. just get your turbo goals squared away before you buy anything.

 

I would go with a Z6 or Y8,and also a SI/EX tranny.

ARP Head stud,a decent manifold,heard 50 trims are a good size turbo for a single cam,and you could build the head if u wanted to but i personally wont go that far cause im sure your HP goal will already but meat on a good and safe tune.
