what color smoke?

white=coolant=blown HG or possibly cracked sleeve
blue=oil=blown HG or Possibly sleeve OR if mostly on decel possible valve seals
Black=fuel=running pig rich for one reason or another.

Do a compression test. Post numbers for each cylinder and go from there.

motor is N/A. ecu is a P28 supposedly tuned for the car. has typical lil add ons as follows intake, intake manifold, header and skunk 2 cat back. nothing much. head is the quietist I've ever herd on b series. color is between black and like a brownish. head is spotless on inside.

So based on the color of the smoke, and my standard assumptions about tuning, I'd say that the VTEC fuel map is probably pretty rich. There are two fuel maps, and the ECU switches to the other map when it engages VTEC.
