MKIII Supra
Need help, just bought a 89 toyota supra, don't know much about it. It's not turbo. Wondering how much work would it take to switch it to turbo. What motors can i swap. Originally a honda man, but decided to venture out of the Honda department. Does anyone know anyone if so please pm me would like to talk and get advice
Honestly. I would find a 7m-gte block. Its the same block, with different internals, and you don't have to drill oil line holes for the turbo. I had one built for my Second Gen supra, but never put her in.
The whole kit can be used from the donor car, everything is drop in.
Ct26 turbos, I wouldn't advise boosting too high, most havent been rebuilt, and werent takin care of. All my friends with old school Supras boosted less than 14 psi, after that, turbo seals would go.
I have a little bit of knowledge, but I don't have much.
This is a second-gen site, but has plenty of info on the 7mge-and 7mgte.. www.celicasupra.com My name up there is Supra8215, or you can pm me up here.
Hopefully, i helped you out some.
good luck.
Also, mk3s are known as pigs... and 1jz and 2jz's are swapable in there. I don't much about those swaps, so read about them on celicasupra.. or supraforums.

the MkIII is more of a cruiser/touring car than anything, they are hard on ball joints and most of the suspension. the 7MGT-E is known for popping head gaskets. o ring and metal headgasket is recommended approach to remedy the situation. the CT26 is good up to about 14 psi, yes, and then it's out of its efficiency range. there is an upgrade (actually 2 well-known ones) for that CT26. one is a T4 wheel upgrade. it's pretty common.

I think the other upgrade is a t61, I can't believe I forgot all my M series bs. See what happens when you move to a honda...lol.

*EDIT* the other upgrade is 60-1, not t61. LOL.

I have one same year too. But mines turbo. And when people say the head gaskets are week, they are!.. Mine went out only 2 months of driving on 9lbs. I know a few things about them so hit me up if you need help. Or if you need parts let me know too. If you are patient enough i will be selling the turbo mani and turbo all all the lines for it in a few months.

Also, please join MaSupras. Mike Webber is a good guy. Even though I don't own a supra, I am still in the old-skool Supra scene. There is a meet in vabeach this month, plenty of supras will be there. With dyno runs.
