i have a 96 neon SOHC and yesterday it started making a knocking noise.....does anyone know what this could be????

 

It's common with neons.... time for a rebuild.

 

i was hoping it wasnt anything like that.....shit

 

it could be midgets in the trunk. it could be dragging equipment. it could be your motor. it could be my motor.

 

Did you try checking the oil? I know it sounds to obvious, but you'd be amazed at how many people at my shop lost motors for stupid shit.

Now if its midgets in the trunk, your fucked. Total it out.

 

is it more of a tapping or knocking? and does it do it more at idle or under power? it could be something really bad like a rod bearing or ya may get lucky and its something loose on the engine. if its more of a tapping its more likely a lifter. no tellin w/o lookin at it myself. good luck!

 

its more of a knocking at mid-range rpm's....i dont really hear it untill i get on it a little bit...i dont really hear it at low rpms and it kinda gets faster as they build up

 

the midgets fell out by the way.....i kinda drifted onto my street one day and a curb got in the way ....but yea...we had to bury the migets in the sand box last week

 

the knocking is getting pretty bad now....


i think its about time to get rid of this piece...anyone want it???
