Default How Much Should This Cost???

Hey my brother just turned 16 and got a 98 civic ex 5 speed. he was driving it home Monday and it died at the stop light. The guy that looked at it said the clutch was out, and said it would be $675 to fix it. I want to know is that right? and if not how much should it cost.

Thanks

died at a stop light? thats weird unless clutch was already bad. but depending on what clutch your getting depends on how high the price is.

A oem replacement should be around $70.00 at car quest. Then bout $300.00 for install.
That's what I would charge.

The fact that you believe it's the clutch is going to cost you a lot more in the long run.

Enjoy paying to fix the clutch and then paying to fix what's really wrong with it later

yep. My clutch/ flywheel combo was $700, no labor, I do it myself. And you need two bearings, thats another $50.

If the clutch somehow was unable to disengage, causing the engine to die (but somehow not restart I assume?), it would still be able to restart in neutral. Obviously it was able to go into neutral and disengage the engine or else your bother wouldn't have been able to push it off the road. Therefore it should be able to start and run without any problems in neutral.

I agree with this diagnosis. I'm very skeptical that it's the clutch.

Ya he had to have put it in neutral to push it but he said it wouldn't start, if it wasn't just the clutch like the guy said what could it have been???

Did it not turn over, or did it just sit there and crank without transitioning to idle?
