Default How Do I Put Rear Main Seal In?

Hey, I need to know the best way to put the rear main seal in without damaging it and without the proper tool, (rear main seal tool). This is really important, I need to get my car back together and everything.

pry the old one out with a flat head.
then tap the old one in with a hammer
or put a socket on it and tap it in.
it's cake.

Hey, you have done it this way? Are you sure the seal will not get damaged? I tried tapping it in with a hammer, I would get most of it in then hit the other part and it would fall out.

Default hey

Hey, so there is no way I can damage the seal with a hammer? Should I use a ball peen hammer, or a rubber mallet?
Thanks

Use the flat side of the hammer, not a ball pen. A rubber mallet may work, but I doubt it. You need to find something that is large enough to sit on the seal as you tap it in. I have always used the seal driver tool since I work at a Honda dealership, but just go to Sears and buy a big ass socket. It will work just the same

seriously, take a tape roll of approx. the same size of the OD of the seal, take a flat something, and tap the seal or drive it forward with a deadblow or rubber mallet.
