for Honda Gurus; 2000 Civic question.
My car started making a strange ticking/tapping noise whenever I let off the gas. The car does it in neutral and in gear, but the sound slows down and halts when the car is not moving.
Weird things,
1. The sound is constant when coasting in neutral.
2. The sound is much louder when I am going fast and let off the gas.
3. The sound is not there when I am accelerating.
I originally thought it was a fan but, when it is stationary, the fan sounds just fine. Other than this noise, the car runs fine
Anyone have any ideas.
Help is greatly appreciated.

I have a ticking noise similar to that on my 2000. It only happends when I am cruising between 1900 and 2300 rpm. I thought it was the head, but now I think that is the tranny becuase I never get any noise when I am in neutral at the same RPMs. Hopefully it doesnt go out anytime soon, but I think I need to get an extra tranny just in case
I had the car diagnosed and we concluded that there is a chipped tooth. Inevitably, I have to replace the tranny....
So, basically the most expensive thing it could be...
GL Zulu, my used tranny was 990 installed, from London Bridge Auto.

you paid someone 990 for the tranny installed haha, im sure someone on here has one for around $100 and they could put it in too
but u might have needed it like today so i guess its ok

d-series trannys are cheap. Anywhere from free to $300. Install shouldnt be to bad. I know a guy who might install it for about $200. But it looks pretty easy in the service manual, a lot like changing a CGB minus the nifty v-band clamp, just heavier
So it looks like anywhere from a few bucks for fluid if I am really lucky, to $500 to have it installed if I get super desperate.
