Default Honda Camshaft Question

B18A Engine Camshafts - Street/Strip (259/261 Advance, 214/216 @ 050, 442/434 Lift) I just need to know how these numbers sound to you gearheads?? What other mods will work well with these cams?? So far I have Clutchmasters lightened flywheel, Skunk2 Adjustable camgears, Fuel pressure regulator, and looking for a header ASAP. Thats all. And just want some opinions....How do you think this will do in a 91 Civic Hatch?? Just askin cuz Im puttin it on the road next week, and I wanna know what to expect. By the way the camshafts are Crower, thanks for any answers.

I think it may idle a little lopey, but it should be alright. The cams should make a good amount of mid and upper rpm power for you as well. I would look into a pretty good 4-1 like the JDM DC or JDM ITR and that should help out with the upper rpm band as well. I have been interested in building a N/A non Vtec motor, but I am kind of scared of the cylinder heads. They will never flow as much as a Vtec head no matter how hard you try.

Sounds like a good start though. You do plan on swapping valve springs and retainers, right? Let us know how it turns out. It should make good torque!

Default valve springs and retainers

Yes I want those replaced. I cant find any good prices though. Any Ideas??? Some one had mentioned that it was a good idea change them but also said that it might do OK, because im not going above the factory rev-limiter. The motor is still out of car and if you now of anyone that will install and adjust them please contact me. Thanks. if you know any prices on the Springs and retainers let me know...thank you

The valve springs would still be a good idea considering the amount of lift and the profile ramp rates that those cams use. Stock springs won't control a valve properly if the lift is much greater than stock even only operating in the stock rev range. Also, why not buzz the motor a little higher? It will be fine to about 7000-7200. Those cams will make good power past the stock rev limit, so you might as well take advantage of it. As far as the installation goes, why not try Abacus Racing & Machine? Shad and Seth are very trustworthy people that do excellent work.

Default Thanks

OK, im getting ready to order the springs and retainers, do you know a ballpark figure on cost of installation?? The springs were $178 and they are dual spring. The retainers were $175 are those good prices??? They are costing me as much as the cams did. LOL. But other than that, you think it should be a fairly strong motor?? Im hoping for a 15.0 or 14.9. what do you think?? I know there are a lot of variables but what is your estimate?? My clutch just came in yesterday also....hell yeah, its comin together finally. Thank you again for your time and info

Not a problem. What kind of car is the motor in? I am not sure what the installation will cost, but just give Shad or Seth a call and they can tell you.

damn it... now I thought I was the only one building the shit out of a b18A1!!! Fuck!
just got my stage 2 crower cams in for my b18a1, and I'll be meeting up with Shad and the rest at abacus to be creating my demon. good luck in your build, hit me back and we can swap ideas- I'll tell you what I have done and what has worked, and maybe we can show the rest of the these VTEC monsters that you don't need a soleniod to make power!

Yeah, I got tired of my brother walkin my ass, so when lost my license I pulled the little D16 out. Yeah we can talk about setups and shit thats cool. I was just wondering also, is there any way that this cam profile is too much for the mods I have...Some ford guy thinks i dont have the requirements for them, I told him it should be fine but he still thinks different. Personally I think its fine. Would some bigger injectors or anything like that be needed?? Fuel Rail?? I have a pressure regulator already but is more needed??
