Default Help with ECU

I have a 96 civic dx with a B16A swap/PR3 ECU. Should I get a P28 for a Hondata S200 or can I do the same with the PR3?

Thanx for any help.

I don't know if it's from a 89-91 or a 91 integra xsi. It's a PR3 though. OBD1 conversion.

Hondata doesn't support OBD-0 ECUs anymore, so unless it's a OBD1 PR3 then start shopping. You can, however, get someone to tune an OBD0 PR3 with some of the freeware software out there.

you should be able to use the pr3. Is it a small box or long box ecu? (square or rectangle). they cannot chip small boxes.

to answer your Q - pr3 ecu is hondata compatible and fine to use

the small boxes are the JDM style ECU's ( normally coming with a jdm swap) with the suface mount components. they are practically impossible to socket or "chip".

any obd1 long rectangle style vtec ecu ( pr3, p28 etc.) is useable.

Actually, the JDM OBD1 P30s are extremely easy to chip, I've done a lot of them. I had one in my del sol for a long time. The Hondata daughterboard for the S300 is huge and won't fit under the knock sensor board on the JDM ECUs though, which is the problem. A flash/EPROM/EEPROM fits great under there. If you want to use anything other than the S300, it's very very simple. Same hardware, just smaller components.

Don't listen to third party information so much.

Fabrik8 is correct about chipping the jdm ecu's. But Hondata has released a new version of there daughterboard for the jdm ecu. It sells under the procuct name of S300J. For the cost though I would look at Crome.
