Default Help: car audio stuff.

I have an accord 4 dr with 4 speakers inside, and 1 12" cerwin vega HED svc hooked up to a jensen 500 w amp. Now here's the situation:

I was driving when all of a sudden the audio in my speakers just turned off and my rear drivers side speaker are now distorting/popping/crackling EXTREMELY loud even at volume 1 (very very quiet setting). When i turn up the volume, i can hear the other speakers and sub faintly, but they are working fine. What i can hear in the distortion is my engine -> a buzzing sound. I had this happen to me before but the problem fixed itself. Anyone have any clue. I'm guessing it's something with the wiring, perhaps my grounds, or my sub wiring. But anyone know what can cause this. It's getting lonely not hearing music while i drive.

thanx.

Make sure all wires are properly connected and all speakers are properly mounted (improper mounting can make a speaker sound like it is blown). Hopefully you have the amps tuned correctly. Might wanna check the fuses on the amps too.

Thats a rca cable problem.....Get new rca cables.....Make sure there not cheap though, and run thr rca's on the other side of the car...Never run them next to the power wire..They pick up the sound in the power line..like engine noise your talkin about...

^^ That too.

If it sounds like engine noise rather than blown speaker noise, start with T-Hybrid's advice.

T-Hybrids got the best advice so far. I wouldnt go as far saying the the RCAs are for sure the culprit. But, that is a good place to start. If it is the RCAs, just replace them w/ cheap ones. When I say cheap I dont mean 5bucks/ pair more like 10-15 bucks a pair. Anything above that would be just a waste. Now back to the problem, I would have to say that it sounds more like you lost a ground. Be sure that all of the connections are still in good shape behind your head unit, then just work your way back. The ground connection at your amp is probably the most crucial of the amp connections. More current travels throught the ground cable that goes throught the primary cable. So ensure that your ground is firmly fixed to the cars chassis, wire should be no longer than 18 in and notshorter that 12 in. Good luck, hope you get it all workin'. I would offer hands on assistance, but I am still sailing around in the persian gulf. I wish I was home working on the civic.

I have a 200 watt jensen amp hooked up to my box and I have the same problem. It did it yesterday while I was on lunch. I messed with the RCA's(Rockford Fosgate(sp?), but that did nothing. I hit the top of the amp with my hand and it came back on. So, it might actually be something with the amp itself.

Sometimes if the RCA cables aren't strain relieved properly when they are mounted, the weight of the cables plugged into the RCA jacks on the amp can cause the solder joints on the amp to fatigue. This is a big problem on cheap amps where the RCA jacks aren't well attached to the amp case so the case will take the load.. Hitting the top of the amp and having it work properly is a sign that something is wrong with your amp, usually bad solder joints inside. You've heard that mounting an amp to a sub box is a bad idea, right? This is the same thing that happens to amps on sub boxes, the vibration and component weight inside starts turning solder joints to powder..
