As far as I'm concerned, the shocks are the same. although I had to buy shocks exactly for a 88 CRX. I fact, any shock, or bushing kit you try to buy for the 88's will be different than the 89-91's. The 88's are said to be a bastard year. There are quite a few little things different throughout the whole car.
What is different? I've never had the reason to find out...sorry.

The only difference is in the rear shocks. The lower control arms require different assemblies because of the way they mount.
The later one's utilize a rear lower control arm similar to the 94-00 integras and civics. The 88 uses a shock that mounts internaly in the arm.
As far as the front's go they are the same.

the only difference is in the rear .... the 88 has the same style lca as a 94-00 integra , i belive the 88 also has a rear sway bar ... 89 - 91 only has a front sway bar. From what i hear on honda tech the 88 rear suspension has the sam,e sytle setup as an ITR , and i have heard it is much better than 89 and up ..... hope this helps .... go search honda tech.
