flooded civic
i got stuck yesterday ......
my car stalled out after i accidently drove it to a big ass puddle. i didnt try crankin it again. today i took the spark plugs off and cranked it a lil to see if water came out and squirted out a lot of water but it also smelled straight gas, anyhow i put the plugs bad in but it still wont crank, i can hear the starter grinding real bad....
has anyone had this problem before and have a good way to fix it.
please let me know. this motor is fully built top and bottom i would really hate if i lost it.
thanx

try turning the motor over by the crank using a 17mm socket with an extension and a rachet and see if it turns over all the way back around till you get to top dead center.
If it doesnt make it all the way around then that means you hydrolocked your motor.

your motor is more than likely screwed my friend. how many times did you try to crank it after it had stalled? water does not compress as im sure you know by now. you might've bent a rod or worse.
fuck that, I sucked probley 2 gallons into my 325i. took the sparg plugs out, cranked the motor over let all the water squirt out. Then got new spark plugs. Made sure all the starter, cap, rotor, wires all dry. After that put it all back in and see what happens. Mine started up and ran fine, still does today. The starter might have got messed up, thats a lot better then another motor.
Definately try turning it over by hand. Look for holes in the block. Thats a great sign of broken rods. Getting water in any motor is terrible but getting it in the little d-series motors cause incredible problems . The little d15 rods break like toothpicks.
+1. I would also check the starter as well, those connections get pretty screwed up when they get wet (or submerged in your case). Pray for straight rods!
For the worse case senario, this happen to me a few months ago when norfolk flooded and I broke three pistons and bent two rods, a 1000.00 dollars later shes running like a champ. But I hope yours is not as bad as mine.
Pull out all your spark plugs.
Get a nice long crazy straw and stick it in each off your spark plug holes.
Suck out any water that may be in there.
Then, pour a little oil in each spark plug hole and rotate the motor by hand.
Reinstall spark plugs and start the car.
Should be find.... unless you broke something.
