Default Engine Temps

what kind of temperatures does an exhuast header reach during normal operation? I'm cleaning up my engine bay and decided to paint the header heat shield, and I have some 1200 degree farenheit paint that i want to use. I assume that's enough resistance, but i want to be sure it won't peel and flake off everywhere. so yeah, thats it.
