Do rx-7 have motor problems?
I am in the market for a fdrx7. I have been noticing a treand in all of the rx7's I've seen. They all have brand new motors in them. Now I could understand if they have alot of milege on the original but they really dont. For example I have seen a couple of them with like 70-90k on the car with a brand new motor. I just want to know why that is. Oh yea it hasnt just been a couple it has been the majority or the rx-7's I have been looking at. I dont want to buy one if I have to replace the motor every 30k.
the motors aren't really trash, they just need more care than piston motors. i've seen a few that turn over 300k without a rebuild. the only thing about them is they have SHITTY gas mileage and bad emissions. also, you hafta let it cool down almost like a turbo car. if you don't, they're very difficult to start if they're still hot. i don't know much more in depth than that, but i hope i answered your basic questions.
alot of ppl just dont know how to take care of them cuz there not a piston engine which easy to work on, a friend of mine has a Rx-7 that pulls 9 sec on the track still has the same motor in his. its kinda hard to find somebody that can work on the wankle engine. but hes a master rotory specialists so thats probably why hes still on his first motor
thanks for all of your replies. I guess the motor just has to be taken extra care of. I should my rx7 by the end of the summer. Cant wait
