do all 2000ex d16y8's have vtec??
i was told my 2000 civic ex d16y8 has vtec but it doesnt cross and it doesnt say vtec on the valve cover. could there be a reason its not crossing or is it just not vtec?

Yes, that is a vtec motor. If its completely stock (air box, exhaust etc) you will not hear it crossover much at all unless you have a hearing aid. Also with it being a single cam its definitely harder to hear than a dual cam. My girl has a 97 ex with that motor and yes it's a manual transmission. We put a CAI on it and you can kind of hear it cross at about 5000-5500rpm.

And for OP, Check your block to see if it even says "D16Y8" on it as you said you were "told". It could always have a different head on it too. Good luck
