d16 idling problems?!
my a6 when i start it , the idle surges from about 1200 to about 4500 . took off the iacv and thoroughly cleaned it and put it back on and it still had the horrible idle. When i hit the throttle it jumps horribly and then bogs down and idles at about 500 and sputters and dies.
What is the problem?

Re: d16 idling problems?!
Not an IACV delete, a block off... Just take off the IACV, cut open a soda can, trace the IACV, cut out the traced part, cut holes where the bolts go through and ta-da!!!! IACV block off plate...

Re: d16 idling problems?!
Did it always do this or did it start recently?
1. Any CEL's? Verify the last owner did not pull the bulb (ask me how I know and I'll e-punch your ear)
2. Try another ECU, set of injetors, verify correct firing order of the plug wires, thats a lot but report back your findings.
3. Build a leak tester similar to this: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html BUT install at the throttle body opening to see if you have any vac leaks
4. Does it improve when the engine is warm?
5. Skip the blockoff plate - you can unplug the connector and that should disable it. If the motor is bad, this is a good test if your idle settles

Re: d16 idling problems?!
does the car die when u unplug the IACV when its running? if so u have a vacuum leak
make sure the tps is adjusted to .5 volt at idle and 4.5 at WOT
Check your gaskets and make sure ur intake manifold is tight (tb gasket and IM)
bleed your cooling system****!!
make sure the MAP sensor and TPS sensor clips are not switched
i can go on and on...timing also affects idle (both ignition timing and cam timing)

Re: d16 idling problems?!
take off intake from t.b. put finger over holes inside t.b. should be 2 holes one at 10-11 o clock and one at 7ish
put finger over upper hole and idle should stabilize

Re: d16 idling problems?!
i know this sounds kind of simple but check the throttle cable...it might be too tight causing the throttle to open up too much
it should be idling at like 750 rpms w/ the IACV unplugged
ur car should still run with the throttle cable completely disconnected....
