Default Crower 402's on stock valvetrain?

i just picked up some Crower 63402-2 cams ..
here are the specs http://www.crower.com/cat/import/hon...s/b_vtec.shtml
they recommend running upgraded valvespring & retainer kit...
i would like to do that, i am doing a b20/vtec conversion though,
& i dont plan on revving past 8500 tops..

what will happen if i run the cams on stock valve springs?

type-r valve springs?

thanks for your input, _PAUL

the stock springs aren't strong enough to bring the valves closed before the pistons come back up, causing valve float which equals boom, no more engine.

are you running stock b20 pistons? if so, this might be ok, but high compression pistons would definitly be a threat.....If boost is any where in your equation definitly up grade the valve springs....

i will be running arias pistons 84mm in a b20b block with a B16 Head & crower 402's, eveentually i will upgrade the valvetrain, but i was wondering what would happen if i didn't... im sure somebody on here has tried it before

w/the pistons i have i should be close to 11:1 compression ratio, i will not be boosting

the stock springs arent stiff enough to take a ton of lift, so yeah you'll probably get float at higher rpms or actually bend one of the stock retainers if you put too much pressure on it....which isnt good. my recommendation is to just hold onto the cams until you can build the valvetrain too. it's not worth risking the rest of your motor honestly.
