can u do it without having the motor in the car if so how?

You're supposed to take the reading with the engine warm. So you're not going to get a reliable reading with the motor out of the car.

double post eh? like i said in the other one, you can turn the motor over if the tranny is attached. use the battery to turn starter over. also like eng said, it wouldn't be accurate if the motor is cold. hth

dude , you install the gauage where the spark plugs go , and turn it over , read the compression on each cylinder , one at a time. Let the car start and idle before you do this though , needs to be warmed up

as long as the starter and tranny are connected you can still do it that is the way you can do it
