Common problems with S2000's???
My brother just bought an 05 S and he is contemplating getting the extended warrantee. Anyone have any high milage S's that have had expensive repairs beyond the 36,000 mile mark? The warrantee is 1600 and if there isnt anything that is a common problem I dont see any point in getting it.

Warranties are for suckers. Even though its a sports car, its still a Honda. Unless he beats on it constantly he should not have any major problems. The factory warranty is 3 years 36,000. The extended is $1600. Any problems within the warranty are not his problem. Outside of the warranty, it is doubtful he will have any major problems that cost more then $1600 to repair. He is better off keeping the $1600, and using it towards a problem if he has one then spending it towards something that might possibly happen. My S2000 is about 700 miles short of 30,000 right now, and I have not had a problem with it yet. I bought mine used its a 2002. Came Honda Certified so got a 1 year bumper to bumper, and 7 year powertrain with it.

The main weak point on a S2000 is the differential. I have a 2000 S2000 and i bought it used. I ended up having the differential go out on me right at the 36,000 mile mark, but that was in 2004 so the three year mark was up. I took it to the dealership anyways to see if they would repair it on good will, which they did. But also i would beat the crap out of the car then and tried to drag race it at the track and it saw a decent amout of 6-7k rpm clutch drops which is what did it end along with whatever the previous owners did.
in the end if he plans on modifying it dont get the warranty because it will void it and if he plans on just driving it and not beating the crap out of it nothing should really go wrong, but you never know.
