Default civic lagging

When i am in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear going about 2000-2500 rpms and try to push the gas to speed up 10 or so mph my car seems to lag or something. Like it isn't getting enough gas or something is slipping. Once i get to about 5000 rpms it is fine but going from 2000 to 5000 it defidently doesn't feel right. Anyone know what might be wrong? Loose belt, fix timing?
thanks

Well if its a dx I dont know how much faster you want it to go. Check your fuel filter.

2000-2500 is not exactly the best rpms to try to pull

well it has the d16z6 and it's not anything like a dx when it comes to speed. I know 2000-2500 rpms is not good to try and pull from, i am not trying to pull from those rpms i am just trying to speed up with normal everyday driving. Any ideas?

Check the fuel system whether it be the filter, fuel rails or injectors.
