Hey guys,
Need help wanting to get this car but needs new timing which is not the bad part, this car smokes really bad and they think it is the head gasket, does anyone else have any other ideas.

what color is the smoke? wheres it smoking from? drain the oil and see if it smells burnt. if the head gasket is popped there will be antifreeze in the oil which will give it a milky shade. i wouldnt buy it, theres a lot of things it could be and buying a lemon is never a good idea.

 

Like reuter said the color of the smoke will tell you a lot about what's wrong.

White: Antifreeze from a bad headgasket.
Blue: Oil cause by any one of the many seals/rings going bad, could be valves or pistons.
Black: Fuel possibly a bad fuel pump or injectors, could be a bad ECU too.

Check the smell and color of the oil too.

 

Thanks guys, i just want a 92-95 hatch so bad i guess. Well thanks for the tips if i have any other questions ill ask you guys. But keep on the look out for a hatch in good condition and not to much $$.

 

if you can get it for a great price then buy it, you can find sohc motors that will drop into your car for so cheap and there so plentiful........

White can also be due to runing very rich .

Both ..My friends 11 sec hatch blows some pretty white smoke due to it being so rich. Also my buddie Kevins holders 10 sec hatch runs insanely rich at high rpms

 

never seen white smoke from running rich.
