well i figured my gas milage i was getting with a full take 11 gals, 197 miles, thats not even 18 mpg...my setup is a B16A2 with stock internals with an edelbrock intake mani and matching throtle body, intake and exhuast. i am running a stock p30 ecu. I also notice that at high rpms (like 5+) my car smokes. my CEL is calling the knock sensor...but i know a guy who is running the same setup (minus intake mani and throtle body) with the CEL that is getting 28 mpg and no smoke. what are some things that i could try to fix this problem, could the intake mani be making that big of a diff...things i am going to try this weekend are sparkplugs, hit the motor with a timing light just to make sure all is good there. Any advice would be great...thanks guys

someone tell me, 'cuz i don't know, but if you're throwing a knock sensor code, wouldn't it always be in limp mode? seems logical, but i don't know my obd-1 ecus yet.

 

no it wont go into limp mode, and yes, more problems then a whore...its a real headache...

 

It would make sense to put the car in limp mode if it's giving out the knock sensor code. But he said at HIGH RPM's it smokes, meaning it is not in limp mode. But checking your spark plugs could help of course, does it ever misfire, or backfire, or make any odd noises?

 

for most hondas, the ecu calibrates for rich/lean based on data from the o2 sensor.
if it hasn't been recently replaced with a new one, i'd do it now. just because it isn't throwing a code doesn't mean it isn't on its way out.
if you were inclined to do a tune-up, i'd do the following:
air filter
spark plugs
fuel filter
distributor cap/rotor
stock injectors? may be replace them with known good ones temporarily

finally, when the motor is switched to the larger cam lobes, it is sucking down fuel.
i might lay off 'spirited' driving for long enough to see if it makes a difference.

 

Hey man, I can wire up the knock sensor. All you have to do is get a plug for the knock sensor, (or i can rig something up). Get about 4 feet of 18 gauge wire, and I will pin it up.

I'll show you mine, it wasn't hard.

EDIT, I changed my screenname, I sold you some teg parts, and I'm also the guy I think your talking about in your first post.

I won't charge you anything to do it, and I'll show you mine. It takes about 30 mins to do it, and it's honestly not that hard.

Accuracy charges about 120 bucks for it, and I'm a cheap muthafucka so I did it myself.

 

ya jarrod, i know who ya are. and hondazccivic yes when i shift half the time it gives me a little pop out the tail pipe witch at my first indication was running rich. the o2 sensor is brand new the spark plugs have been in about 4 months maybe.

 

wat color smoke is it

BLUe =bad bad valve seals or something of that nature is leakingoil into the cylinder
Black is mega rich
whites bad too in most of the case

 

i know its running rich...but im not sure i think its black, ill get back to you on that
