Default Camshaft question...

Lately I have been thinking about doing a camshaft change on my civic. I have an LS in there right now, and was curious as to how big of a change i can get away with. I don't want to have to re-tune my ECU or anything, but want as much of a change as I can possibly get. Any good companies to look at? Or would it have to be a custom job? Also, who makes the best cam gears? I havn't even looked at them before, so I am completely clueless about these. Thanks a ton for the advice!

zex is decent to have, cheaper than most out there. With very mildtuning just stay with the stage1 BELIEVE ME I put the stage 2 street/strip cam and is just nothing but idling problems and much more moreover, you will need springs, retainers replaced. I am running str 570 cam gears, because I like the fact that it has 5 bolts insted of aem with 3. The stage 2 cam I had to use my vafc to take care of it, it helped but didn't take care of all the problems. If I could I would there is a chance that I would go back to stock. When I look back on things I would not waste my money on doing things on my cylinder head and all that stuff, shootz, I wasted a lot of my time.

if you go anything too aggresive and your going to have to upgrade the valvetrain...you gotta ask yourself are you willing to spend all that...

Really all I'm looking to get is VTEC performance all the time. I don't feel like doing a head swap and an ECU change. Do you think I could take some cams from a GSR and figure out a way to force the VTEC lobe to stay engaged permanently? I have heard of import drag cars doing this before, but I don't know if it would be all that cost-effective. What are your thoughts?

No, sorry. Seems to me you don't even have ls v-tec, nor ecu and blah, blah blah. You might be lucky to pick up a b16 or gsr head 650 and up. 1200 from millenium for the ls vtec swap. Don't fight me on using gsr cams, A vtec valve assembly IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Vtec permanently?

Yes, i read up on it, and the drag cars rig the solenoid to permanently engage the VTEC cams at all RPMs. And you're right, i don't have an LSvtec...just an LS. I just was wondering if the cams were interchangeable...obviously not...

No they don't "rig the solenoid" they use a Killer kit that eliminates the low end vtec lobe. http://www.todaracing.com/products/h...ec_killer.html there is an example of a killer kiet. The reason for this is they don't need it since they are never in a low rev range and it takes a whole lot of dead wieght out of the valvetrain that otherwise wouldn't be used. also not all drag racers do this only the smart ones

I would go with crane cams. They have a lot of options for you to choose from.. I have them in my car and it works well with my set up..

Vtec is a economy thing. If you get some adgressive cam it will be just like vtec was ingaged all the time.

THe integras that race are not even type r's they are ls body's with gsr motors worked over with an LS head with killer cams in it.
